Attic Flooring

When our consultant comes to inspect your attic flooring requirements, he will ask what the room is going to be used for e.g. for light storage, structural flooring for heavier storage or a habitable room.

Our light storage attic flooring sits above your rafters and we use a product called ‘StructaFlor’ which is reasonably light, but strong in these situations. We have a report from out structural engineer, certifying a load weight of 75kg per square metre (plus you of course) is fine. Remember that we design attic floors over existing walls and support beams that will accommodate this weight load. For structural attic flooring, we always have a structural engineer visit your home and inspect the load bearing capacity that you require if you want to store heavier items in your attic. We may have to install steel beams between walls to support additional weight, and under the new attic floor to ensure that your ceiling will support additional weight. Depending on the project, we can design and install structural attic flooring that easily supports bookshelves etc. Attix Living rooms are a completely different story. We are Registered Builders (WABRB # 13152) When we design attic conversions we utilise structural engineers, licensed builders and your local Council must approve all site plans before work commences. Quite simply, the extension within your attic area can become another bedroom, with or without shower and bathroom etc. We can arrange for a spiral or traditional staircase, just let your imagination run. We have specialist interior designers ready to discuss your unique project. As a suggestion, we can lay your structural attic flooring, then place cork tiles on the flooring (to reduce noise) and then place whatever floor coverings you may require, either carpet, wooden floorboards etc.
